Influential Black Leaders - Dr. Amos Wilson

Professor Amos N. Wilson was a former social case worker, supervising probation officer, psychological counselor, training administrator in the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice and Assistant Professor of Psychology at the City University of New York.

Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1941, Amos completed his undergraduate degree at the acclaimed Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He later migrated to New York where he attained his Ph.D. from Fordham University.  Familiarly referred to as Brother Amos, he availed himself for numerous appearances at educational, cultural and political organizations such as the First World Alliance, the Afrikan Poetry Theatre, Afrikan Echoes, House of Our Lord Church, the Patrice Lumumba Coalition, the Slave Theatre and CEMOTAP to name just a few.  His travels took him throughout the United States, to Canada and the Caribbean.

Dr. Wilson's activities transcended academia into the field of business, owning and operating various enterprises in the greater New York area.

THE POWERLESS POWERFUL: BLACK FALSIFIED CONSCIOUSNESS  – DR. AMOS WILSON

We're unconscious of the power that's in our hands. We're like the Israelite who, threw their gold rings and gold of various types into the melting vat to make a golden God and kneel down to worship it and perceived it to having power over them. African people, with the natural resources of the world at their feet, with minds and bodies second-to-none, have given their power and wealth over to another people. And, have made that people powerful and now are on their knees in front of those people: begging for salvation, begging for jobs, begging for food and begging for their very lives.

THE WEALTH & POWER OF A PEOPLE IS NOT IN THEIR LAND BUT, IN THEIR MIND! Japan, which has no natural resources to speak of, is one of the most economically powerful nations, and Europe is in a similar position. If you have an appropriate consciousness, you can con another. You can use words to rob people of their mind, land and wealth and say, “this is a holy book,” and have them give up their land. You can manipulate people and have them spend billions of dollars, the way African Americans [& Africans] do–who would rob, sell drugs, kill and destroy communities & nations, to give their wealth to white folks. THE WHITE MAN IS A GOD THAT WE HAVE MADE – THE WHITE MAN IS A GOD THAT WE MUST DESTROY! – Dr. Amos Wilson

OUR CONSCIOUSNESS HAS BEEN FALSIFIED! Why and how is it possible for us to number over a billion people and yet be ruled over by a fraction of the Earth's population? Many of the most important things and problems that we talk about stem from our relatively POWERLESSNESS! We may talk about the European being an “Ice Man,” talk about him protecting his genes, talk about him in a number of ways, but in the end the European does what he does because...HE CAN DO IT! It doesn't matters why he does it; what matters is that he does it and does it to us and...GETS AWAY WITH IT! If we're to solve this problem and stop him, it means that we're to gain equal or greater POWER! I know that strike some you as strange because one of the reasons that we're “relatively powerlessness” is that someone [whites & blacks] has taught us that the pursuit of power is something SINFUL! A people who do not develop power, who cannot exercise power, are a people who are ultimately headed for DEATH & GENOCIDE!
