Historians often downplay the role of mixed heritage historical figures in European history. In fact, mixed people of African and European descent have been vital in shaping European society.

For instance, General Thomas-Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie, also known as Alexandre Dumas, was the father of the French author of the same name. Many regard “The Three Musketeers” author as one of the most prominent and most-read French authors of all time.
