A day inside the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy Located in Southeast D.C., the academy is teaching children through baseball

There are currently six facilities associated with MLB that aim to help impoverished youths academically and in learning baseball – Houston, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Compton, California, and Washington, D.C.

The sixth, however, is slightly different.

Located in Washington, D.C.’s, Wards 7 and 8, which are 95 percent African-American, the Nationals Youth Academy is different from the other five because it’s the only one without official oversight from MLB on programming. This means that 150 scholar-athletes get lessons of all kinds – math, nutrition, science – all through baseball. We spent a day getting to see what makes the facility unique and interesting.
