College student allegedly ‘put bleach in his pregnant girlfriend’s water bottle to kill fetus’

A small college campus in Pennsylvania has been rocked by the allegation that a student poisoned his pregnant girlfriend’s water with bleach to kill the fetus.

Theophilous Washington, 20, from Washington, D.C. attended Millersville University in rural Pennsylvania and has since been charged with attempted first-degree murder of an unborn child and reckless endangerment.

theophilous-washington“The charges are twisted and the intended result nothing short of horrifying,” District Attorney Craig Stedman stated Friday.

The incident happened while the couple was at his home. As she was leaving on Friday morning, Washington offered her a glass of water from the fridge. She drank the water and began to feel a burning in her throat; she soon began vomiting and then called 911.

During police interrogation, Washington admitted to the crime.

“Washington, the father of the child, admitted to putting bleach in the water bottle,” prosecutors stated. “He had stated previously that he did not want the female to have the child.”

Brian Hazlett, Millersville’s vice president of student affairs and enrollment management, referred to the incident as “a horrible, unconscionable event.”

“It is very disturbing to me personally because I consider our students to be our family,” Hazlett said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and we’re doing everything we can to make sure she is OK.”

Washington is being held on $1 million bail and his next court appearance is on November 4. Mother and child have recovered and are doing well.
