Deaf Seahawks fullback featured in inspiring new Duracell ad

It’s not as if the Seattle Seahawks fan base needed any extra motivation to cheer their team on during Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against their rival 49ers.

But a new Duracell ad featuring Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman could make the league’s loudest stadium just a little bit louder at kickoff.

Coleman, who is deaf, went undrafted in 2012 after starring at UCLA. He earned a spot on Seattle’s practice squad later that year. In 2013, he made the team’s 53-man roster.

The new ad is part of Duracell’s “Trust Your Power” campaign and has featured other NFL players such as San Francisco linebacker Patrick Willis.

Coleman talks about all of the people who said he couldn’t play football, and teased and bullied him about his hearing impairment during the one-minute commercial.

Fittingly at the end, Coleman provides his most powerful response:

“They didn’t call my name, told me it was over. But I’ve been deaf since I was 3. So I didn’t listen.”

And just when you thought the commercial couldn’t get any more inspiring, Coleman saves his best line for last:

“And now I’m here with the loudest fans in the NFL cheering me on. And I can hear them all.”

Chills.

The Seahawks face the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET
