Did CNN Censor Comments Made by Sylville Smith’s Sister About Violence in Milwaukee?

After the shooting death of 23-year-old Sylville Smith in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, family members have dismissed the unrest that has dominated headlines since Aug. 13.

According to initial reports, Smith was armed with a semiautomatic handgun. When officers stopped Smith, he and a passenger fled during Saturday’s traffic stop. Smith was shot, while his counterpart was not.

CNN aired an edited clip of the suspect’s sister, Sherelle Smith, asking protesters to be peaceful.

However, Twitter user DeeconX posted video of the young woman commanding the protesters take the unrest to the suburbs.

“Burning down s— ain’t going to help nothing!” Smith tells the crowd in the clip. “Y’all burning down s— we need in our community.”

“Take that s— to the suburbs. Burn that s— down!” she instructs. “We need our s—! We need our weaves. I don’t wear it, but we need it.”

However, Sherelle Smith has called for peace before.

In an interview with Milwaukee’s FOX 6 News, the grieving woman told reporters that “Violence is never the key though.”

“I don’t want anyone to be violent.”
