Fast food chain fires server for printing racist slurs on customer receipts

Tyrone Moseley and a co-worker stopped off at a Texas Sonic Drive-in in Texas for lunch, but they were both surprised when their receipt had racial slurs printed across the top.

Usually, when ordering food at the franchise, the person who takes their order would ask for names to go with the order, but no one asked when Moseley ordered. Instead, the words “Mexican” and “N***a” were printed on the receipts to identify them.

“One of the workers, she came outside. I asked her and said, ‘Do you know anything about this? Is this how y’all put the name of your customers on your receipt?'” Moseley recalled. “She was like, ‘Ugh… no.’ But then she kind of giggled and just walked off and kept going.”

Moseley added that he was surprised to find that the carhop responsible was also black. “It kind of bothers me for your own kind to call you that. Especially at a place of business. Especially where I spend my money at,” he said.

The carhop has since been fired.

“We understand that a carhop wrote an offensive word on one customer’s receipt and a different offensive word on another customer’s receipt,” a Sonic spokesperson said. “The franchisees who own and operate this drive-in consider such behavior to be completely unacceptable. They have already investigated the matter and report that the carhop is no longer employed by the drive-in.”
