Lorna Mahlock makes history as first Black woman brigadier general

Lorna Mahlock has been promoted to the rank of brigadier general by President Donald Trump, earning her the honor of becoming the first black woman ever named to the esteemed position. The brigadier general appointment signals progress for the Marine Corps which has come under fire for failing to diversity its ranks. Mahlock currently works as the deputy director of Operations, Plans, Policies, and Operations Directorate at Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington.

Trump judicial nominee Wendy Vitter won’t say if she supports Brown v. Board of Education ruling

During a confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Louisiana lawyer Wendy Vitter refused to state whether or not she believes that the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case was correctly decided. Vitter is Donald Trump‘s judicial nominee to become a federal district judge for Louisiana’s Eastern District.

Target fires neo-Nazi employee for terrorizing shoppers with white supremacist message

On Tuesday, Target announced that it had fired an employee responsible for slipping laminated cards with a white supremacist message into packages of diapers. Target customers across the country were shocked to find laminated cards that had the message “It’s okay to be white” printed on them, along with links on the back of the cards to white supremacist websites.

Chance the Rapper is inviting everyone (including you) to his birthday party

For Chance the Rapper’s 25th birthday party this year, he’s hosting a ticketed event that is completely open to the public. Tickets range from $100 to $250. There will be performances, special guests, an open bar, food, and of course Chance himself. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to SocialWorks, a youth empowerment non-profit. The party will take place on April 21 at LiqrBox in Chicago.
