Gang member charged in 7-year-old Chicago girl's murder

NBC Chicago- A West Side gang member was denied bond Sunday, after he was arrested and charged in the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl.

Chicago Police say 26-year-old Jerrell Dorsey is the man who murdered Heaven Sutton in front of her Austin neighborhood home last week.

Dorsey is charged with one count each of first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Sutton was helping her mother sell candy to neighborhood kids at a stand set up outside their home Wednesday night when two men approached the group and began shooting. The young girl was shot in the back and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour after being shot.

The second offender remains at large.
