Kendrick Lamar Halts Performance After White Fan Drops N-Word on Stage

An eager Kendrick Lamar fan got the chance of a lifetime to drop some bars on stage with him, but the experience turned sour when she dropped the n-word.

On Sunday, May 21, a white fan named Delany begged to get up on stage with Lamar, according to Twitter user @madstervape. Once she got on stage at the Gulf Shores, Ala., Hangout Music Fest, she began rapping lyrics to 2012’s “M.A.A.D City.”

“Man down, where you from?” Delany says, omitting the n-word from the end of the lyric before dropping it in the second line. “F— who you know, where you from, my n—-?
Where your grandma stay, huh, my n—-? This M.A.A.D city I run, my n—-.”

When the fan dropped the second n-bomb, audible boos began erupting from the crowd. However, Lamar didn’t stop Delany until the verse was complete.

“Wait, wait, wait,” Lamar says before explaining another fan who rapped “kinda knew the rules a little bit.”

“Am I not cool enough for you?” Delany asks. “What’s up, bro?”

“You gotta bleep one single word, though,” Lamar tells Delany who asks if she dropped the n-word.

“Yeah, you did it,” Lamar says.

Delany said she was “so sorry” amid calls for her to get off the stage. “I’m used to singing it like you wrote it,” she says.

The fan recited the lyrics again without incident before Lamar wrapped things up.

@madstervape, who captured the video, tweeted that “Kendrick asked her if she was sure [she wanted to get on stage] and she said yes. Don’t blame Kendrick.. this girl just has no filter.”

In response, a debate ensued over when it was all right to use the N-word.

“She knew it was wrong when she skipped it the first time she didn’t have to play dumb,” one user said.

“SHE AINT NEVER SAID ‘NIGGA’ A DAY IN HER LIFE SHE WAS SO HESITANT TO SAY IT. SHE KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING ,” another said.
