March Madness final prediction: Kentucky to pull out victory over UConn

It’s been March Madness in this year’s NCAA Tournament and ‘March Sadness’ for everyone’s bracket.

Monday night, the 7th-seeded Connecticut Huskies face the 8th-seeded Kentucky Wildcats in one of the most improbable title match-ups in recent memory.

UConn took care of tourney favorites Michigan State and Florida on their road to the title game; Kentucky toppled No. 1 seed Wichita State, reigning champion Louisville and the upstart No. 2 seed Wisconsin Badgers.

The Huskies are led by a pair of upperclassmen guards – senior captain Shabazz Napier and junior defensive hawk Ryan Boatright. Junior forward DeAndre Daniels leads the team in scoring with nearly 18 points per game.

In just his second season at the helm of the Huskies and his first-ever NCAA Tournament as a coach, head coach Kevin Ollie has made everyone a believer.

Since 1999, no Div. 1 men’s program has won more titles than UConn.

The young and stacked Kentucky Wildcats team were a preseason No. 1. They didn’t play up to their potential for the majority of the regular season.

The tournament has been a completely different story. The Wildcats could be the first team to win it all with five freshman in the starting lineup.

Aaron Harrison has hit back-to-back-to-back game-winning or go-ahead three pointers to lift the Wildcats to victory in the most of dramatic of fashions. Sophomore forward Alex Poythress has come on late in several of those wins with monster defensive plays, rebounds and end-of-game buckets.

No one gets more out of potential one-and-done players than head coach John Calipari. It was only two seasons ago that Calipari won his first-ever NCAA Title with future No. 1 pick Anthony Davis leading the way.

The Pick: Kentucky 72, UConn 68
