On May 17, 2016, The Undefeated — the premier platform to explore the intersections of sports, race and culture — officially launched. Cue up 2 Chainz’s “Birthday Song,” because two years later, we’re still here and poppin’! It all began with the story of the lynching of Jesse Washington. We’ve given you The Undefeated 44, a list of the most influential black Americans in history, and collaborated with SurveyMonkey to deliver the controversial collection of the 50 greatest black athletes of all time. We hosted a conversation on sports, race and conversation with then-President Barack Obama and powered a special-edition issue with ESPN The Magazine chronicling the current “State of the Black Athlete.” It doesn’t — and won’t — stop here. Cheers to more years and more storytelling to come!
