Milwaukee Teacher Caught on Video Yelling and Slamming Student Has Been Fired
The Milwaukee teaching aide caught on video verbally attacking and slamming a student on a table last week has been released from his position.
Jasmine Pennix, 39, was fired the day after the footage became public.
In the video, the Bay View High teaching aide is seen tossing a 14-year-old student onto a classroom desk and choking him. Pennix is also heard yelling and screaming at the student.
The aide called the teen a “little motherf—-r” and the N-word. According to court documents, the teacher responded this way after the teen and another student were engaged in some name-calling. The teen told Pennix to shut up and even challenged him to fight. That caused the explosion of emotions.
“Milwaukee Public Schools has terminated the teacher aide involved in the April 20 incident with a Bay View student,” MPS spokesman Tony Tagliavia wrote in an email. “This decision is based on the district’s investigation of the incident. The termination is effective today.”
The New York Daily News reports that Pennix could serve up to six years behind bars and face a $10,000 fine if he’s convicted of felony charges. He is still in a Milwaukee County jail with a bail of $2,500, and he is due in court May 10.
