Mom Questions Display Highlighting Other Races During BHM, Her Son Gets Kicked Out of School in Return

A Lithia Springs, Ga., mother can’t believe her son’s pre-school kicked him out after she posted a Facebook post questioning an American history display put up by a Black teacher.

Kendra Molden believes her critical Facebook post may have been the reason her 4-year-old son was kicked out of the privately owned and state-funded Neighborhood Learning Center school. During a Wednesday, Feb. 8, interview with WSBTV Channel 2 Action News, Molden took a picture of a display that had white and Black historical figures meant to celebrate “American history” instead of Black history.

“It really is a slap in the face. It didn’t sit well with me. They just put it up for this month,” Molden tells the reporter. “We learn about everyone else’s history 11 months out of the year. We have one month.”

The display featured several Black iconic figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Harriet Tubman, but there were white historical figures including George Washington, Jimmy Carter and Walt Disney.

By Thursday, Feb. 9, Molden said school officials called her and told her that Thursday would be her son’s last day. Molden recorded as she and her son were escorted out of the school that afternoon.

The unidentified teacher even jumped on the Facebook post writing that the display was meant to promote inclusivity. “Go study your history,” she wrote under the post. “We are in a diverse learning institution and we do not discriminate.”

Molden said that the school never gave her an official reason for kicking her son out. “They never gave me a reason and I asked several times,” Molden says.
