Moving to a Happy Place, Solange Knowles is Getting Married

Screen Shot 2014-11-11 at 11.08.19 AMCongratulations are in order for the youngest Knowles sister, as she is set to marry her boyfriend Alan Ferguson on Sunday, a source confirmed to US Weekly.

Solange and her camp have been very hush hush about the upcoming ceremony, but it is expected to take place in New Orleans, where Knowles resides with her 10-year-old son, Julez. Secret weddings seem to be a trend among the Knowles family, as Beyoncé and Jay-Z got married in April 2008 in the same private manner.

This is the first big news we have seen from the singer since her altercation in May with Jay-Z in the elevator of The Standard Hotel in New York City.  No one is sure what exactly caused Knowles to kick and punch her sister’s husband on the night of the Metropolitan Museum Costume Ball, but this new, happy, and engaged version of the fashion icon is a welcome change.

Her husband-to-be, Ferguson, is a music video director who has directed clips for both Beyoncé and Jay-Z and even presented an award at the 2012 BET Awards with the eldest Knowles. The couple have a 23-year age difference—Knowles is 28 and Ferguson is 51.

This isn’t the “I Decided” singer’s first foray into married life. She was married to Daniel Smith when she was 17 and he was 19.  The two divorced a short three years later but continue to co-parent their son Julez.

The wedding festivities will begin on Friday with the party enjoying a movie night and then continuing on Saturday with a rehearsal dinner, before Knowles finally ties the knot on Sunday.

“Luckily, I dated all of the losers ages ago,” Knowles told Harper’s Bazaar in March 2014. “My love life has been stable for a while. It’s a f–ked-up thing—without conflict it’s a lot harder to write interesting songs.”
