Newsweek Apologizes ‘For Any Offense’ Caused by Article About ‘The Bachelorette’ and Interracial Dating

When a national magazine posted a headline claiming Black women don’t date non-Black men, Twitter users quickly went after it, leading to the article’s removal.

Newsweek ran a story on the new season of ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” which premiered Monday, May 22, and the headline read, “Unlike New ‘Bachelorette’ Rachel Lindsay, Single Black Women Rarely Date Outside Their Race.”

For the first time, a Black woman is at the center of the matchmaking series. Lindsay will choose from 31 potential suitors over the course of the season, with 11 of those men being Black and the rest being mostly white.

The Newsweek piece declared Lindsay made history by smooching one of those suitors, Colombian Bryan Abasolo, and outlined statistics about how few Black women married people outside of their race compared to Black men.

The publication deleted the article a day after it was published …

… but Twitter users had already made their issues with it known and continued to do so.
