Obama Reminds Solider That Kaepernick Has A Right To Protest Like Anyone Else

On Sept. 28, President Barack Obama defends his support of San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s right to protest in a CNN Presidential Town Hall.

In the clip, First Lieutenant James Sutter asks Obama about Kaepernick’s protest during the “typically respected” national anthem. Unbeknownst to him, Obama has answered this question before stating that he supported the QB early on. Now, the president reiterates those sentiments. He says that Kaepernick and other players have his support because protest is American.

“… I want them to listen to the pain of those [who may have lost a loved one in war]. But I also want people to think about the pain that he may be expressing about somebody who’s lost a loved one that they think was unfairly shot.”
