Pastor Mark Burns Regrets Tweet Depicting Hillary Clinton in Blackface

Donald Trump surrogate Pastor Mark Burns tweeted a political cartoon yesterday depicting Hillary Clinton in blackface.

The tweet sparked controversy online and within the Trump campaign.

But Burns initially defended the tweet before apologizing and removing it within three hours.

On the Aug. 29 edition of MSNBC’s “Meet The Press Daily,” the pastor defends the controversial tweet, claiming that Black people are too loyal to the Democratic Party.

“The picture is designed to draw attention to the very fact that Hillary Clinton panders to Black people … We have been voting for the Democratic Party en masse and we have very little to show for it.”

However, the pastor retracts his defense in a live Periscope broadcast at 8 p.m. after his interview with MSNBC.

“The last thing I want to do is offend people …  And regret the offensiveness of the blackface,” he says in the clip. “I want to apologize … I really am a unifier.”
