Report: ABC to end ‘Scandal’ after season seven

ABC is scheduled to announce the end of Scandal after seven seasons at the network’s upcoming upfront presentation, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, has been vocal about wanting to make the show last seven seasons, so fans who have been following closely will be disappointed, but not surprised, to see the show coming to an end.

In fact, as far back as season four, Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter that season seven was the end, saying that it wasn’t a “10-season or eight-season show.”

“I’ve already decided when Scandal is ending,” she said at the time. “I think there’s only so much Scandal you can tell satisfactorily. The Fitz-Liv thing can only be told so long and in such a way. … I’ve already decided how long that is and what that’s going to be.”

As for how the show will end, that too is something that Rhimes has been vocal about, saying that the current political climate has upended a lot of ideas, including one for a Russian hack of an election that had to be scrapped when it hit too close to home.

“I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected,” Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview for its 100th episode. “We had a destination, and I don’t know if that’s our destination anymore.”
