So you want to vote on your favorite HBCU band? Here’s the chance to weigh in on your favorites in the ESPN/The Undefeated HBCU Band Ranking

The HBCU Nation is buzzing over what people think of this season’s first ESPN/The Undefeated Band Rankings that were published this week. We knew some people would love them, others not so much, but that’s OK.

Our rankings are done by 10 current and former historically black college and university (HBCU) band directors, who watch videos of band performances and evaluate how the more than 40 bands perform each week. They judge each on five categories: musicality, drill and design, percussion, drum major and auxiliaries, such as dance and flag squads. This year’s ranking panel also includes hip-hop artist Jay Rock, whose song “Win” incorporates musical elements from HBCU band music.

The purpose of these rankings are twofold: to recognize the top HBCU bands and to give useful feedback to the many bands that will be judged by the panel of expert band directors. Our band rankings are unlike any others because we rely on experts to determine the rankings.

But we heard you too. So we are giving you, the fans of HBCU bands, a chance to tell us who you think are the best bands and your favorites.
