St. Lucia Readies 36th Anniversary of Independence Celebration With Lecture in NYC

In celebration of Saint Lucia’s 36th anniversary of independence, the Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York welcomes Professor Alvin Hippolyte, Saint Lucian actor, director, and writer, as the main presenter at the upcoming Saint Lucia Independence Lecture.

Canceled due to snow last year, this event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 6:30PM at the Saint Lucia House, located at 438 E 49th Street, Brooklyn, New York.

Hipployte’s presentation will focus on the role of Saint Lucians in the Diaspora in the ongoing development of Saint Lucia. Hippolyte served as Director of Culture in Saint Lucia and, a United Nations Fellow in theatre, has acted and directed off Broadway. He currently functions in both capacities with the reputable Brave New World Theatre Repertory Company in Brooklyn

A former Professor of Speech and Theatre at Medgar Evers College, as well as Kingsborough, Queensborough, and the Borough of Manhattan Community Colleges, Hippolyte has also served as a guest artist at numerous colleges, including his alma mater, Howard University in Washington, D.C. He has also acted with the Folger Shakespeare Theatre and the Jean Cocteau Repertory Theatre. In his career, Hippolyte has written plays, short stories, and poetry; currently, he is working on his first novel.
