When you live your life as a kind human being, young or old, you’re bound to establish a legacy that will live on.

The Florida high school basketball hoops star was known as “a leader and people were willing to follow.”

ESPN tells the story of 18-year-old Stef’an Strawder and 14-year-old Sean Archilles, who were killed and 16 others injured, including Strawder’s 19-year-old sister, Sharrelle. The shootings took place outside Club Blu, a Fort Myers, Florida, nightclub, on the morning of July 25.

The tragedy happened just weeks after Strawder’s 18th birthday. He was exiting the club when a bullet hit him in the shoulder. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead following emergency surgery.

Stephanie White, Strawder’s mother, told The News-Press he was a good person.

“Why him? Why Stef? No matter where he went, everyone invited him into their home like he was their own. People loved him,” White said.

Archilles lived close to the nightclub.

“He liked to make people laugh. He’s a funny kid. He’s always joking,” said his father, Jean Archilles.

Strawder asked his friends on Facebook if anyone else was going to the party.

Police reported that three suspects have been detained, but that there’s no known motive for the shooting.
