Tour the new Sacramento Kings arena with forward Matt Barnes NBA vet grew up in the area and followed former Kings stars

There probably is not a Sacramento Kings player who appreciates playing in the new Golden 1 Center more than Sacramento’s own Matt Barnes.

Barnes initially was a Los Angeles Lakers fan in Sacramento before then-Kings stars Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Mike Bibby and Peja Stojakovic won him over as a teen. Barnes, a 12-year NBA veteran, attended Del Campo High School in the Sacramento suburb of Fair Oaks, where he was a star in football and basketball, earning All-City honors in each sport. Barnes came home to play with the Kings for the first time during the 2004-05 season.

Barnes rejoined the Kings by signing a two-year, $12 million contract during the offseason. The building of the 17,500-seat Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento meant a lot to the 6-foot-7 forward.

“We had media day the other day and they had the court down, and this big Jumbotron and I saw my name all around here,” Barnes, 36, said. “It brought chills because, like I said, I grew up [here].”

Barnes recently gave The Undefeated a tour of the new venue, including the practice floor, weight room, training room, locker room and more.
