Trump leaves country scratching their heads after tweeting ‘covfefe’

Just after midnight in the early hours of Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump confused the nation.

“Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” the president tweeted at 12:06 a.m., but there was no follow-up, no deletion, no explanation.

The internet, or at least the section of it that was awake at the time, immediately took to speculating about what “covfefe” could possibly mean, ranging from “coffee” to “FBI Director James Covfefe” and everything in between.

The joking around and speculation lasted for hours until the tweet was finally deleted six hours later, though the followup from the presidential account didn’t exactly shed light on the situation.

“Who can figure out the true meaning of ‘covfefe’ ???” Trump tweeted at 6:09 a.m. “Enjoy!”

Which means we still don’t know what he meant.

Some Twitter users turned in desperation to the Twitter account for Webster’s dictionary, since surely if anyone could help them define a word, it would be Webster’s, right?

Well, after seeing the debate raging, this was Webster’s tongue-in-cheek response: “Wakes up. Checks Twitter. Uh… Regrets checking Twitter. Goes back to bed.”
