Waffle House Employee Locks the Door, Threatens to Shoot a Woman If She Doesn’t Leave

Following the two most current Waffle House incidents, another location in Pinson, Alabama is under fire for refusing to let a Black woman dine inside.

The incident occurred Sunday night April 22 around 3 a.m. according to WBRC. The video recorded by the victim herself Jacinda Mitchell shows the doors locked and predominantly white customers sitting inside. A Waffle House employee then walks over to the door where Mitchell is standing, bangs on it and mouths “I will shoot you”.

The victim posted the video on Facebook and Pat Warner, the director of public relations and external affairs for Waffle House, released the following statement:

“We are aware of the incident at our restaurant in Pinson, Alabama on April 22, 2018. We have launched an investigation to gather all of the facts. Waffle House is a welcoming place for everyone, and we are fortunate to enjoy a very diverse and loyal customer base who we do our best to serve every day. The employee involved should not have locked the front door at all and should have certainly opened the door for the customer when she arrived. We will get the facts and take appropriate action quickly.”

One of the employees named Shelby spoke with WBRC and claimed the restaurant was short staffed, so she locked the doors to clear some tables off. She told the news station that it had nothing to do with race and issued an apology to Mitchell.

Mitchell said suing is something she doesn’t plan on doing but wants to shine light on a bigger issue.

“I initially record just to show corporate about the doors being locked. I don’t need a lawsuit…. just needs to be brought to the public attention,” Mitchell wrote on her Facebook page.
