Watch: Mothers of Sandra Bland, Jordan Davis, and Others Speak On Losing Their Children To Senseless Violence At #DNC

On Tuesday night of the Democratic National Convention, the “Mothers of the Movement” discuss the pain of losing their children to police brutality and acts of violence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The “Mothers of the Movement” consists of Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, Lucia McBath, the mother of Jordan Davis, Lezley McSpadden, Mike Brown’s mother, Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, mother to Hadiya Pendleton, Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontré Hamilton, Geneva Reed-Veal, mother to Sandra Bland, Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner and Wanda Johnson, mother of Oscar Grant.

In the nearly 10-minute clip, Bland’s mother describes the heartbreaking story of her daughter’s unlawful arrest in Waller County, Texas a year ago.

“So many of our children are gone, but they are not forgotten,” says Reed-Veal. “I’m here with Hillary Clinton tonight because she is a … mother that will say our children’s names. [ We need a] president who will help lead us down the path toward restoration and change.”

Then Jordan Davis’ mother speaks about her support for Clinton and Democratic presidential nominee’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I lived in fear that my son would die like this. I warned him that, because he was a young Black man, he would meet people who didn’t value him or his life,” McBath shares. “That is a conversation that no parent should have with their child. Hillary Clinton isn’t afraid to say that Black Lives Matter. She isn’t afraid to sit at a table with grieving mothers.”

To quiet the critics, Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, states that “This isn’t about being politically correct, this is about saving our children.”
