Are You Sabotaging Your Success by Waiting for the “Perfect Time?”

Every time I offer a new course, I get dozens of emails like this:

  • Aww man I have to work one of those nights so I won’t be able to attend all the live calls! Will you be offering the course again?
  • This is exactly where I am in my life right now. I NEED this course! But I don’t have the funds. When will you offer it again?
  • I really want to work with you in the course, but the timing of the calls is off for me since I live on the west coast/another country. When you offer the course again, can you please hold the calls at a different time of the day?

Do you notice a theme in any of these questions? Yep, they all focus on the possibility of me teaching the course in the future instead of taking advantage of the transformation that’s being offered right now.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a personal development course that could help someone change their lives or an entrepreneurship class that could help someone build their business and make more money. I’ve been teaching online courses since 2010 and I can count on one hand the number of people who actually take action if and when there is a “next time.” So if you’ve ever emailed me with one of those questions, you probably received a loving, yet direct invitation from me to shift your mindset and not count yourself out.

I can stand in a place of integrity and ask people to make empowered decisions because I’ve been there. I’ve done it myself. I’ve made the excuse of not having the money or the time or wasn’t ready or whatever. Now that I think about it, every time there’s been a life-changing opportunity placed in front of me, I honestly DID NOT have the money or the time and I certainly didn’t feel “ready.” But a few years ago, I made the decision to stop focusing on what I didn’t have and find a way to get what I needed.

Invest in Your Own Freedom

Back in 2011, I paid over $1,000 to get coach training from one of my mentors. Believe me, I DID NOT have $1,000 just lying around waiting to be spent! But I knew I needed the support and all the free information I was getting off the internet just wasn’t teaching me what I knew I didn’t know. And I’m so glad I did, because it renewed my commitment to my business and my purpose to empower women to create their ideal lives.

In 2012, I took a course to help me become a better public speaker. It cost a few hundred dollars and again, I didn’t have it. I had to take the payment plan. And I was so “busy” that I barely had time to attend all the live calls. I had to go back and listen to the recordings. But that class gave me so much more confidence in my work that I raised my fees and had the most PAID speaking engagements ever in my career that year.

Last year, I came across an opportunity to travel to Thailand with a group of young entrepreneurs. I absolutely DID NOT have the extra $3,000 in my bank account just ready to go. But I decided to take the leap and sign up anyway. After I paid that deposit, I became highly motivated to work 100% harder in my business to bring in more income. Now, I know the reason why I was led to go. Those few weeks in Thailand completely expanded my outlook of what was possible for my life and inspired me to move to Hawaii!

I’ve cut corners and gone without things I wanted. I’ve used a credit card. I’ve borrowed money. I’ve sold things I didn’t need. I’ve worked part-time jobs from a restaurant hostess to an adjunct professor. I’ve worked late nights and early mornings to bring in more clients and customers to my business. Even when I was working full time at a 9 to 5, my organization wasn’t always able to pay for me to attend conferences or reimburse me for certain association memberships. But I didn’t let that stop me. I paid out of my own pocket so that I could access the support I needed to get ahead in my field.

What I know from experience is that you will get further much faster in your life and business if you invest in yourself with your time and money because no one else is going to do it for you.

Start Making Empowered Decisions

Whenever you come across ANY great opportunity that you know could change your life, it’s important to remember that the timing will never, ever be “perfect.” The truth is…that great class, that dream job, that promising business opportunity, that awesome conference or that once-in-a-lifetime trip abroad may never be offered to you again. The best advice I can give anyone who truly wants to make progress on any goal is to stop talking about all the reasons why you CAN’T and focus your time on figuring out how you CAN.

Say “yes” to the opportunity while it’s in front of you. You don’t know when or if it will ever come around again. Stop clinging so tightly to your limitations. Instead, choose to trust your faith that things will work out for your good if you will just take the first step.

Leave a comment: Where in your life do you need to stop waiting for the “perfect time?” Where in your life do you need to find a way to say yes?
