I Met Him on Tinder

“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.” – Nora Roberts

It’s amazing how quickly your life can change if you let it.

Earlier this year, I chose 3 theme words to guide my experience of 2015:

Fun, love and adventure.

And I have to say, this year has definitely lived up to my desires.

Just 2 months ago, I returned from my latest international adventures to Honolulu, Hawaii, my beautiful island homebase.

One of the first things I did was update my online dating profiles with the intention to meet a fun, romantic, adventurous and supportive man in the area.

In the process, I decided to set up a profile on Tinder, the highly popular dating app that everyone has been talking about.

Soon, I started “swiping right” and get matched with several cuties on the island.

But there was one in particular that caught my attention…and held it through multiple phone and text conversations, leading to a lovely impromptu coffee date one Sunday afternoon.

We agree to meet at Starbucks.

I arrive early to see him pull up on a black motorcycle.

I watch as he takes off his helmet and strolls inside the coffee shop.

I start to text him and let him know I am here, then put away my phone to see just how long it will take him to figure out that I’m actually leaning against the wall waiting for him outside.

A few seconds later, he comes outside, scanning the patio with his eyes. I catch his gaze and see recognition – and then delight – flicker across his face.

He is tall, chocolate and has a slight southern accent.

I find out he’s from Washington, DC and we quickly bond over our love of the city.

And music.

And food.

And, and, and…

We talk for hours, the sun creeping below the horizon as we laugh and laugh.

Fast forward almost 2 months later, and we’ve spent the holiday season building a beautiful friendship and a romance that grows every day.

Which leads me to one of the most important lessons I’ve learned this year.

The truth is…

One conversation can open your heart.

One weekend can alter your path.

One person can change your life.

And I’ve been wondering…

Maybe I can be that person for you?
