Live Your Life Out Loud: Oprah’s Farewell Interview with First Lady Michelle Obama

Last night, CBS aired a one-hour exclusive interview called, “First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell To The White House: An Oprah Winfrey Special.”

Here’s a short clip from their powerful conversation:

Oprah sat down with First Lady Michelle Obama to talk about life at the White House, her eight years as FLOTUS, the legacy she leaves behind, and what’s in store for the future.

As they were talking about the “Angry Black Woman” label people tried to place on FLOTUS, Michelle said something we can all learn from:

She said that amidst the name-calling and criticism, she chose to “live her life out loud” with the intention that her actions would speak for themselves.

Later, Oprah asked FLOTUS what she thought her greatest impact had been.

Oprah said what I think we all have felt seeing Michelle lead with grace and strength over the past 8 years:

“Your just being here, being who you are, being yourself, and allowing the rest of us to see that, make us feel that whatever it is you were…we wanted a little bit of that for ourselves.”

What does this moment mean for us as black women?

It means that we are in a very important time in our evolution.

We have gone from slavery to the White House and everywhere in between.

And now, it’s time to take it to the next level.

It’s time for all of us to LIVE OUR LIVES OUT LOUD.

It’s time for us to stop making excuses for why we CAN’T and start figuring out how we CAN.

It’s time for us to stop playing small and STEP UP to be an inspiring example of success for all the black women and girls who come after us.

Most of all, it’s time for us to stop trying to figure it all out on our own and come together as a tribe.

For support.

For friendship.

For sisterhood.

This is exactly what we’ll be doing at our upcoming Manifest Your Vision 3-Day Mindset Retreat happening January 13-15 in Tampa, Florida.
